The University of Nottingham is ranked within the top one per cent of all universities worldwide, placed 7th in the UK for research power and 74th by the QS World University Rankings. With 90% of research at an international standard, Nottingham is a major research institution delivering work of international significance and is described by The Sunday Times University Guide 2011 as 'the embodiment of the modern international university'.

Manufacturing is a major priority and Nottingham's work in this field is driven forward by their Advanced Manufacturing Priority Group, one of 13 across the University. They have over 200 industrial sponsors of research including Rolls-Royce, Airbus, Boeing, Bentley Motors, Ford, Jaguar Land Rover, AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis, Pfizer, Mars, Unilever, Shell and E.ON.

From 2012, the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing will provide a critical mass of research and world-leading facilities for the development of new technologies and systems for cost-efficient, knowledge-intensive, environmentally friendly production of high-value products.

  • Industrial biotechnology and regenerative medicine
  • ICT driven manufacturing

The University of Nottingham is a founding partner of the MTC and is committed to working with the MTC, and other academic and industrial partners to support UK industry to continue to be a global leader in manufacturing in the years ahead. Nottingham is an active partner of the MTC in key themes such as tooling and fixturing, ICT in manufacturing, intelligent automation, net shape manufacturing and non-conventional machining.
