Senior Hydrogen Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Hydrogen Engineer to join our Advanced Production Systems (APS) Team.

The Senior Hydrogen Engineer role is primarily focused on technical delivery of projects and development of project related activities across The MTC, with a focus on Hydrogen projects. You will work across various technology departments, industrial sectors, and customers.

Activities in the role will likely include:

  • Technical project leadership to ensure work meets or exceeds agreed customer requirements. Including working with project managers and engineering resources to deliver projects within agreed scope, budget, and timescales. Projects and work packages typically have budgets of £100k to £2m over timeframes of 3months to 2.5 years.
  • Technical delivery of projects aimed to support UK-based customers with the design, development, industrialisation and scale-up of their Hydrogen products. The role has the potential to work across industrial sectors, with a primary focus on products associated with Power and Energy.
  • Depending on experience, specific tasks could include:
    • Mechanical design and development of medium to large scale complex industrial equipment
    • Design Optimisation for Function, Manufacturing, Automation, or “X”
    • Skill and workforce development
  • Providing technical governance, including nurturing earlier-career stage engineers in their technical development.
  • Supporting Senior Managers with a proactive approach in the identification, technical specification, and delivery of new and novel technology capability into the MTC, its customers, or industrial members premises.
  • Working with The MTC’s stakeholders to define and propose project ideas for internal, industrial, or Collaborative Research & Development (CR&D) funding streams.
  • Ownership of Health and Safety to ensure your own and your colleague’s health (both physical & mental), pro-actively reporting any concerns, near-misses or accidents.

All aspects of the role are to be carried out as an exemplar within the business in adhering to the MTC RIGHT way:

  • Acting responsibly, putting MTC’s interests ahead of personal ambition.
  • Providing inspirational leadership to all who encounter you.
  • Delivering in the broadest sense a great working environment.
  • Leading with humility, honesty and integrity in all that you do.
  • Promoting teamwork, supporting through difficult times and collectively celebrating our successes.

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) was established in 2010 as an independent Research & Technology Organisation (RTO) with the objective of bridging the gap between academia and industry – often referred to as ‘the valley of death’.

It represents one of the largest public sector investments in UK manufacturing and, after four years of planning and a 16 month build, the facility opened at Ansty Park in Coventry at the end of 2011.

In December 2011, there were 16 industrial members, 44 staff and just a few key pieces of equipment in the ‘workshop’.

Over the following 10+ years the MTC’s rapid growth has seen the expansion of our campus with the construction of three more facilities, including the opening of the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre and the National Centre for Additive Manufacturing.

Our role has also increased to cover not only R&D but also Training, Advanced Manufacturing Management and Factory Design.

We now have over 800 talented employees working with us.

During this time we have helped hundreds of companies across a range of industries and over 100 of them have become members of the MTC.

Reference Checks and Security Checks (where applicable)

Due to the nature of our business, all employment is subject to satisfactory references being obtained alongside a level of security clearance checks.
