SME focus: making progress happen at Label Apeel
Project challenges
Label Apeel were unsure what support they needed when they first approached MTC, but it became apparent when MTC conducted a thorough line walk, that process improvements could be made through reviewing their digital systems.

The Challenge
MTC were recommended to Label Apeel, a label printing manufacturer in Leicester, by their bank, Lloyds.
Following an initial meeting at an MTC technology showcase, Label Apeel decided to engage with MTC to see what benefits could be brought to their manufacturing business. Following a few phone conversations, MTC conducted a thorough, free of charge, line walk at Label Apeel, to look at the details of their production processes, the level of current technology, the efficiency and the effectiveness of what they were doing.
On the line walk it quickly became clear that there wasn’t really an issue with their manufacturing processes, but there was an opportunity within their computer systems; their current MIS (Management Information System) had reached the end of its life and needed replacing.
MTC's Solution
Once the MIS was identified as needing replacing, MTC put together a scope of work in order to change the system as quickly and efficiently as possible, so that there was little impact on Label Apeel’s daily operations. Following this, an extensive tendering document was produced by MTC for Label Apeel to go to market, that identified their exact requirements, giving them confidence that they would make the right decision in selecting a product but then being able to hold the supplier accountable in the implementation phase.
MTC also introduced Label Apeel to the funding programme 'Innovate Edge', where they we’re able to access funding to support them in the adoption of the new system, made easy by using the framework provided by MTC.
When you’re working with MTC, what you have is a collaboration and a true partnership. It's the feeling of the atmosphere you get when you first walk into the building, you can almost smell the innovation.

The Outcome
Using the framework provided by MTC, and the funding provided by the Innovate Edge programme, Label Apeel are now ready to install a new MIS into their business. The results will be that the business will operate more efficiently and with greater visibility of their ongoing projects. It will also support future expansion plans meaning a better service for their customers and more profitability for Label Apeel.
Benefits to the Client
The new system is going to bring a number of benefits to Label Apeel, including digitalising and automating their processes, resulting in a more streamlined system. The inbuilt complexity within the old system has now been removed, giving a clearer visual on the projects in hand and ultimately simplifying their operations.
This is not the end of MTC’s collaboration with Label Apeel, as the new system gives them the endless opportunity to evolve what they currently have, by implementing bolt ons to make the process even more seamless. There have also been conversations with MTC and Label Apeel about future projects surrounding sustainability, energy consumption and energy saving.
