10 years of PROGRESS10N
Welcome to 10 years of additive manufacturing INNOVAT10N
We are proud to be celebrating the 10th anniversary of MTC becoming the National Centre for Additive Manufacturing (NCAM), marking years of innovation, collaboration, and leadership in advancing additive manufacturing (AM) technologies. This milestone is an opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come, the transformational projects we've been part of and the future we are helping to shape.
Our story is one of progress and impact. From ground-breaking projects to transformative collaborations, we have supported businesses across aerospace, automotive, defence, and more to embrace the potential of AM. This celebration highlights the incredible opportunities unlocked by cutting-edge technology and the dedication of our team and collaborative partners.

The celebration will also feature insights from the experts who have driven this journey forward. Industry leaders and innovators will share their experiences, explore how challenges were overcome, and offer a vision for the next era of manufacturing innovation.
As the National Centre for Additive Manufacturing, we combine the most advanced equipment with the most innovative minds to push the boundaries of possibility in our pursuit of progress.
Proudly celebrating our first 10 years as the National Centre for Additive manufacturing.
Here for what comes next.

It's a tremendous technology that's come so far, leaps and bounds in the 10 year period with innovative new equipment, new processes, new skills and a whole host of capabilities that have been born here in the centre. A great achievement to date, but an opportunity for even more collaboration as we lean into the next 10 years.

Impact projects

Digital Reconfigurable AM Facilities for Aerospace
Discover how DRAMA aimed to reshape aerospace manufacturing. At the National Centre for Additive Manufacturing, MTC spearheaded the creation of a cutting-edge metal powder bed facility and digital tools that empower UK supply chain companies to innovate with additive manufacturing (AM). From strategy to production, this project has revolutionised support with a Knowledge Hub, hands-on resources, and expert training. Explore the future of AM—designed for success and tested with 19 pioneering companies.

Reducing the skills gap in Additive Manufacturing
Bridging the gap between academia and industry in additive manufacturing. The ADMIRE project united eight partners from five countries to revolutionise AM education. By launching Europe’s first Master’s degree in Metal AM Engineering, it equips graduates with cutting-edge skills for industrial success. With an online hub, research-driven curricula, and strong collaboration, ADMIRE connects educators, students, and industry leaders to shape the future of AM. Discover how MTC played a pivotal role in this transformative initiative.

External wing for regional aircraft demonstrator
Unlocking the potential of Additive Manufacturing (AM) for aerospace. Through the EWIRA project, key challenges like process reliability, lightweight optimisation, and fatigue performance were tackled head-on. By leveraging topology optimisation and electron beam melting, a redesigned bracket achieved 15% weight reduction. With validated processes, improved surface finishes, and flight testing, the project set a new benchmark for AM in critical aerospace applications. Explore how these advancements are shaping the future of flight.

Advancing electric motors through AM
Revolutionising electric motor design with Additive Manufacturing. In the quest for net-zero, MTC tackled the challenges of efficiency and design freedom by creating a groundbreaking electric motor casing using advanced tools like Siemens NX and nTopology. The result? A single-component casing with over 65% mass reduction, streamlined assembly, and minimised environmental impact. This award-winning design showcases AM’s potential to transform performance and sustainability in high-efficiency motors.
